Ford’s Jiangling Motors Corp joint venture has announced plans to add 100 new dealers for the Ford Everest in China by early 2017, helping to increase sales of the increasingly popular SUV throughout the year.

“The expansion of Ford Everest dealer network is just the beginning of our plans to take the Ford-brand customer experience at JMC to a new level, for the benefit of our customers,” said Thomas Fann, president of JMC, “The newly added dealers will enable us to continue serving our customers with best-in-class Ford vehicles powered by the very best technologies. The new Everest was purpose-built to set a new benchmark in its class, combining the toughness of an off-road SUV with impressive on-road ride comfort, made possible with Ford’s smart technologies to open the life’s possibilities for Chinese customers.”

The 100 additional dealers will be determined by JMC after it weights its current import dealership network and determines which locations will provide the best access to customers. As part of the company’s growth plan, the Everest, Tourneo and Transit have all been introduced as a means to bolster options for Chinese customers.

Ford’s SUV sales in China were key to helping the automaker set a new full-year sales record in 2016, with sales of the Edge increasing 123% year-over-year.

The Everest is currently produced at JMC’s Xiaolan plant and distributed through its Ford-branded import dealer network.
