John K. Blanchard to Lead GM in Rebuilding Detroit
General Motors announced last week the appointment of John K. Blanchard to a new position, as lead executive for all of GM’s initiatives and projects concerning the revitalization of Detroit and other communities in the area. Blanchard had served as director of Local Government Relations for the US since 2011, though he has been with GM since 1983.

“As a life-long resident of Michigan, John understands Detroit well,” commented Bob Ferguson, senior vice president for Global Public Policy. “Having John lead our efforts will ensure the company has an even greater impact in helping rebuild Detroit.”
In this position, Blanchard, who is 52, will represent the General on several boards and commissions in the Detroit area. These include Automation Alley, the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, and the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, among others. It is likely that Blanchard will also serve as GM’s rep on the Downtown Detroit Partnership.
