“Junk” 1970 Chevy Camaro Embarrasses Porsche 918 at Track
This 1970 Chevy Camaro is the definition of a sleeper.
The classic muscle car is nicknamed “Junk,” and it definitely earns the moniker. With an ugly, faded patina paint job; an aging vinyl top; and plenty of rust, this doesn’t look like much. But as always, it’s what’s inside that really counts.
Under Junk’s hood is a 7.0-liter LS7 engine crate motor, souped-up by Proline Racing and strapped to two 76 mm turbos that send about 1,400 horsepower to the rear wheels. Talk about “junk to funk.”
Check out the video below, in which this beat-up Camaro shocks an $850,000 Porsche 918 Spyder equipped with a 608 horsepower V8:
With a top speed of 143 mph, Junk manages to beat the Porsche by running a 9.66 second quarter-mile. Not too shabby for a car that’s 45 years old, and looks every day of it.
She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts.
