The 2016 Scion iM

Last November, Scion unveiled its stunning iM concept at the LA Auto Show, and there was immediate talk of making it a production model.

Now, as we draw closer to the 2016 iM’s arrival at dealerships on September 1st, the awards are beginning to roll in, and we are getting mighty excited. Following Forbes’ nomination of the iM and its sedan friend, the iA, on its list of Hottest New Cars for 2016, KBB.com has given the iM a sixth-place mention on its 10 Best Back-to-School Cars of 2015 list.

The Scion iM combines affordability (with an MSRP as low as $18,460) with style, making it ideal for newer drivers and college students.

It’s powered by a four-cylinder engine that’s accompanied with an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency rating of 37 mpg highway. This rating in particular caught the eye of KBB.com editors, as well as its impressive list of standard safety features (including eight airbags and hill start assist), 7-inch Pioneer touchscreen Display Audio System with HD Radio and the Aha app, Bluetooth connectivity, and a myriad of customization options.

“To earn KBB.com recognition for the Scion iM before the vehicle arrives in showrooms validates Scion’s commitment to build vehicles that fit our drivers’ lifestyles,” explained Scion Vice President Doug Murtha. “The KBB.com experts praise the iM hatchback for its customizability and safety, features that will resonate with students and parents while maintaining that Scion uniqueness our drivers want.”

While in the past, students were forced to drive old bangers or Mom’s minivan, they can now choose more age-appropriate vehicles like the Scion iM without breaking the bank. If you’re considering a new car for the new college year, it might be worth holding off for another month and nabbing yourself a Scion iM rather than settling for something “meh” right now.
