Chevy driver Kevin Harvick won Sunday’s NASCAR race at Kansas Speedway

Sunday’s win was Harvick’s fourth victory of the 2016 NASCAR season

All of the pressure is off of Chevy driver Kevin Harvick.

Thanks to his recent win at Kansas Speedway, the 2014 Sprint Cup champion has advanced to the round of eight in NASCAR’s playoff system. Fellow Team Chevy driver Jimmie Johnson is the only other competitor besides Harvick to have already secured a spot in the next round, which is thanks to his win last weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Sunday’s win was the 35th of Harvick’s career. Harvick drove his No. 4 Chevy racecar past Carl Edwards’ Toyota Camry on the final restart and held on the rest of the way to seal the victory. After the race, Harvick credited his team for the victory.

“These races are so hard to win, and these guys are so good at the details,” said Harvick. “You put their backs against the wall and they get better. I’m really proud of them.”

Edwards finished the race in second and he was followed by Joey Logano’s No. 22 Ford Fusion. Former NASCAR champions, Johnson and Kyle Busch, came in fourth and fifth, respectively. Moreover, Matt Kenseth—the man who led the most laps at Kansas with 116—only managed a ninth-place finish in his No. 20 racecar.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be visiting Talladega Superspeedway next weekend. The event will take place on October 23rd and it’s scheduled to begin at 2pm. NBCSN will handle the broadcast.

Talladega is known as one of the most unpredictable races on the NASCAR schedule, with numerous multi-car crashes transpiring over the last several years. However, thanks to their victories in the last two weeks, Harvick and Johnson will both advance to the next round of the playoffs no matter how well they perform at the superspeedway.
