Kia and B.R.A.K.E.S. Provide Driving Training During National Teen Driver Safety Week

National Teen Driver Safety Week was October 16th through the 22nd and Kia held defensive driving classes along with B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe), a non-profit organization that offers education for both teenagers and parents nationwide. Their first stop during the week was in our nation’s capital of Washington DC where attendees learned best practices of safe driving while utilizing Kia vehicles.

Professional on-site instructors, including former stunt and race car drivers, assisted the participants with hands-on training. In groups of three, students were given the proper attention from the instructors to ensure that the safety methods were accurately understood. Some brief examples of the training included emergency braking, maneuverability, and control. Each section of training went in-depth as to how the driver can appropriately react to certain dangerous situations in order to maintain control and avoid any major accidents. The training also included a classroom session where participants could ask questions and learn more about safe driving techniques.

Quite possibly the most appropriate training for today’s teens included a distracted driving course which showcased the extreme dangers of using cell phones while driving. Founder Doug Herbert has a special place in his heart for the program since he lost his two sons in an auto accident. His purpose in creating the program in 2008 was to ensure that no parent ever has to go through the same tragedy.

Earlier this year, Kia and B.R.A.K.E.S. renewed their ongoing partnership with a new multi-year deal and expanded the number of available vehicles to improve the experience for more students.

Moving towards the end of the year, the B.R.A.K.E.S. program has a few more scheduled dates on the East Coast spanning from Florida to New Jersey. To learn more about this free program or sign up, visit putonthebrakes.org.
