Kia Celebrates Producing Two Million Cars in the US
Kia has officially produced two million vehicles in the United States
The Kia brand has been picking up momentum in the United States, raking in awards and reaching sales milestones each and every month. This month, one of the newest Kia milestones comes from its Georgia assembly plant, which is located in West Point, Georgia.
A white 2016 Kia Sorento SXL was the two-millionth Kia vehicle to be produced in the United States.
“Assembling two million vehicles in less than seven years is a remarkable achievement, and one that each of our team members can take a lot of pride in,” said Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia President and CEO Hyun-Jong Shin. “The world-class quality that goes into every Sorento CUV and Optima midsize sedan we build is a direct result of the hard work and commitment of our team members and today we salute their commitment to excellence.”
Since the plant began mass production on November 16, 2009, Kia has invested more than $1.1 billion in its Georgian manufacturing plant—and it looks like it has paid off significantly. Not only does the Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia plant create more than 15,000 jobs in the West Point area, but it also was recently named one of the highest ranking vehicle assembly plants in the US—it was ranked in the top five—by JD Power’s Initial Quality Study.
“Together, Kia and Georgia have a strong reputation of success,” said Georgia’s Governor Nathan Deal. “The company’s continued investment in the state speaks volumes to our pro-business atmosphere, and we will continue to support them as they grow here. I want to congratulate Kia’s team members on this accomplishment.”
Now, this plant produces more than 40% of all Kia vehicles sold in the United States, building the current Sorento SUV and Optima mid-size sedan.
