Kia Motors UK Senior Staffers Complete London Marathon to Raise Money for Charity

This past Sunday marked the 37th running of the London Marathon, where people from all over the world raced to the finish of the 26.2 mile course. This year’s winners from the men’s and women’s categories were Daniel Wanjiru and Mary Keitany, both from Kenya. Not every runner was considered a professional athlete that had gone through intense training for the race. There are usually thousands of amateur runners that also participate in the London Marathon, usually doing so to raise money for various charities.

Two of Kia Motors UK’s senior staffers ran the race and raised a large amount of money for The Children’s Trust, which provides special care for young people that had been affected by brain injuries (usually from road traffic accidents) and Shooting Star Chase, a children’s hospice charity. Paul Philpott (president and chief executive) completed the race in 4 hours and 17 minutes while Sonia Appleby (customer service manager) finished with a time of 5 hours and 5 minutes.

The pair ended up raising over £45,000 (about $58,000) for the organizations, thanks to donations from family, friends, and colleagues. Both of the charities’ headquarters are located near the Kia offices in Walton-on-Thames.

“Completing the London Marathon was a fantastic experience it was a privilege to take part on behalf of The Children’s Trust,” said Philpott. “I was humbled by the generosity of family, friends and colleagues in the industry and I know this money will make a huge difference to the lives of young people with brain injuries.”
