Kia’s UVO3 system now comes available with Apple CarPlay

Kia is keeping up with the industry’s technological advances, giving consumers exactly what they want—Apple CarPlay®. The South Korean carmaker recently announced that the 2017 Kia Sportage and 2016 Kia Optima models (which will arrive at dealers during the second quarter) will come with CarPlay® compatibility when the models are equipped with a compatible navigation system or UVO3, Kia’s infotainment system.

Along with these soon-to-arrive models, customers that have previously purchased the 2017 Sportage and 2016 Optima can download an update that includes CarPlay® at myuvo.com. This will be available at the beginning of the third quarter.

In a recent statement, Henry Bzeih, the Managing Director of Connected & Mobility Services for Kia Motors America, said: “The arrival of CarPlay® compatibility follows on a promise we made when Optima launched last year. These running changes and available downloads will seamlessly bring iPhone’s easy-to-use interface and functionality to our newest and best-selling models. Kia is taking the Uvo platform to year another level of enhancement by extending the customer’s personal mobility technologies safely and easily into a Kia vehicle. CarPlay® will bring an additional element of convenience while maximizing the benefits of connectivity.”

The 2017 Sportage and 2016 Optima will join the 2017 Sorento, which was the first Kia model to offer the CarPlay® technology.

Apple CarPlay® allows iPhone users to stay connected while out on the road. This technology gives drivers the ability to use their iPhone through Kia’s UVO infotainment system interface—all the driver has to do is connect his or her iPhone into the USB port. The driver can then make phone calls, access music, send and receive messages, and get directions. The CarPlay® tech even offers hands-free support thanks to the Siri® voice control.
