Kia finished off 2016 with a bang

In the recent months leading up to the end of 2016, Kia has received many awards for its industry-leading models and fantastic sales figures to match. With that being said, it comes as no surprise that 2016 marked a record year for Kia sales overall. The final tally was up by 3.5% from the previous year, totaling 647,598 units sold. Not only that, the year ended with Kia’s best fourth quarter sales and highest December total in the history of the Korean company.

Out of the impressive Kia lineup, four models exceeded the 100,000 unit mark for the first time in the company’s history – Soul, Optima, Forte, and Sorento. It’s not surprising that the Soul did so well, as it has been winning awards left and right throughout the year, including honors from Consumer Guide Automotive, Car and Driver, and the Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year Awards.

Two vehicles that saw large increases in year-to-date sales were the Forte and Sportage, both increasing units sold by over 24,000 for the 2016 year. This is also not shocking, considering the Sportage recently won the Best Buy Award from Kelley Blue Book in November, for its versatility and fun-to-drive package.

It truly has been a magnificent year for Kia

It’s definitely true that Kia has been working hard to improve the quality of its vehicles and many are taking notice. Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA, stated, “From J.D. Power and Consumer Reports to many other respected third-party experts, Kia has never been more highly rated for quality and dependability, and customers flocked to our showrooms in December and throughout 2016 to experience all that the ‘New Kia’ offers.”
