2017 Kia Niro Hybrid Debut

The Kia Niro hybrid SUV will make its Chinese production debut at the Beijing Auto Show

Kia Motors is looking to test the response of customers in China before the big release of the Kia Niro crossover SUV. The South Korean carmaker is planning to showcase the Niro hybrid SUV at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition later this month when the show kicks off on April 25th. This hybrid vehicle will then be launched in China in October.

The Niro is Kia’s first-ever hybrid SUV. It has its entirely own platform, offering consumers in a variety of markets an eco-friendly family vehicle.

In South Korea, the Niro has already gone on sale. When it hit the showrooms on March 29th, consumers picked the crossover over and over again. So far, more than 2,500 Niros have been sold since their domestic launch.

Now, Kia hopes to have the same success in the Chinese market. The carmaker hopes to appeal to Chinese customers with the Niro’s high fuel efficiency, roomy and stylish cabin, and cutting-edge safety features.

Kia has outfitted the Niro hybrid with a 1.6-liter GDI engine. It is mated to a 32-kW motor system and six-speed dual clutch transmission. This allows the Niro to produce up to 141 horse power and 195 lb-ft of torque, while still achieving an impressive 45 miles per gallon fuel efficiency rating.

And, unlike some of its hybrid SUV competitors, the Niro’s battery is placed under the rear seats. This allows the SUV to offer a significant amount of space for cargo.

With its good looks, great fuel efficiency, and immense space, it would come as no surprise if the Kia Niro took the Chinese market by storm.
