“Kia is off to a strong start in 2018 with Rio, Forte, Cadenza and Sportage experiencing big gains as our long-term strategy for growth delivered a double-digit retail sales increase in January,” said Bill Peffer, vice president, sales, KMA. “We have an aggressive slate of product launches scheduled over the next 18 months, and innovative vehicles such as the Stinger sportback sedan and Niro Plug-In Hybrid are attracting new customers who are discovering Kia’s world-class offerings for the first time.”

The high performance of the Sportage and Forte and an overall “11.8% rise in retail sales compared to the same period last year,” are bright spots for Kia as the automaker also announced a staggering number — a 58.8% decrease — in fleet sales.

Kia models that saw higher sales last year in January than this year include the Optima, which sold 7,849 models in 2017 and 5,198 models in 2018; the K900, which sold 34 in 2017 and 22 in 2018; the Soul, which sold 7,792 in 2017 and 5,938 in 2018; the Sorento, which sold 6,179 in 2017 and 6,123 in 2018; and Sedona, which sold 1,538 in 2017 and 1,042 in 2018.
