Kia Sportage Boasts New Powertrains and Design for Drivers in Korea and Europe

The Kia Sportage has gotten even better for drivers in Europe and Korea. A refined exterior and new powertrains optimize the already popular and global best-seller for Kia Motors.

A new 1.6-liter “SmartStream” diesel engine gives drivers in Korea and Europe an incredible option to power their Sportage. This four-cylinder diesel engine takes the place of the previous 1.7-liter CRDi diesel engine option. At this time, only European drivers will have the option of the all-wheel-drive equipped first 2.0-liter “R” diesel mild-hybrid powertrain. The responsive combination of a 2.0-liter diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission will be available in other select global markets.
“The 48V diesel mild-hybrid unit is the first to be launched as part of Kia’s global powertrain electrification strategy. With this development, Kia becomes the first manufacturer to offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric and 48-V mild-hybrid technology across its full model line-up,” reports Kia.
New rear and front bumpers, a variety of paint colors, metallic skid plates, chrome sill trim and 16- through 19-inch alloy wheels are among the exterior changes available on specific Sportage models. Dark chrome inserts on the rear tailgate and side sills, a gloss black hot-stamped radiator grille, and silver and gloss black skid plate are featured on the GT Line models and the SX trim.

New infotainment options and safety features are available on the enhanced Sportage. Depending on the market, drivers will have the option to integrate driver assist systems such as a Surround View Monitor, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and Driver Attention Warning. The debut “frameless” 8.0-inch infotainment system or 7.0-inch touch screen are available as well.
