If you’re thinking to yourself “the GT4 Stinger sounds like a sports car, but Kia doesn’t make sports cars,” it may be time to think again.  The next installment in Kia’s transformation into a contender may be a rear-wheel-drive sports car, and from what we’ve seen so far, it looks good.

Kia is set to unveil the brand-new GT4 Stinger concept at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.  We’ve only seen teasers, but the Kia GTR Stinger concept looks like nothing we have ever seen from the Korean automaker before, and that same goes for its performance figures.

The Stinger concept will be powered by tuned version of Kia’s 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-inject four-cylinder engine.  Now, you may be thinking that a four-cylinder engine shouldn’t be powering a sports car, but did we mention this thing was tuned?  The enhanced 2.0-liter now pumps out an impressive 315 horsepower.

We don’t know a lot about the design or the rest of the specs, but according to Kia’s brief press release, “Custom 20-inch aluminum center-lock wheels feature carbon fiber inserts for strength and weight reduction…  And underpinning the GT4 Stinger’s sculpted “Ignition Yellow” body is a custom chassis with an independent double wishbone suspension.”
