The Kia Sorento Ski Gondola at SEMA

Kia has always been a pioneer of wacky but innovative concepts brought to SEMA shows in Las Vegas. From the YouTube branded Kia Soul in 2014 to the Kia Sedona Beermobile in 2015, there is always something to look forward to from the Korean automaker. This year, they did not disappoint. Kia recently unveiled a new concept that will take drivers across any snowy terrain they face.

The Kia Sorento Ski Gondola was designed specifically for snow and ice, and looks a little different than most cars, considering its wheels are of a triangle shape rather than the standard circle. That’s right, triangle. Much like the Nissan Rogue Warrior concept from earlier this year, the design of the wheels, along with a specialized weather rubber coating, allows the vehicle to grip more harsh terrain and get skiers up to the mountains where they can continue to have fun.

The extreme Sorento also provides extra cargo space for sports equipment and other adventurous necessities on the top of the vehicle. The custom metal roof rack will allow drivers to store items like skis and poles, while the interior has enough space for additional bulky items like boots and other ski gear. Suicide doors on the Ski Gondola allow for easy exit and entry while hauling the bulky equipment.

Inside the Ski Gondola Sorento you’ll find upgraded customized door panels, dashboard, and a center console that features a personalized tablet. The black and orange leather accents the already sporty feel of the concept while the waterproof Line-X treatment on the floor and throughout the interior makes it practical for the snowy conditions.

This isn’t the only lifestyle oriented concept that Kia has created for SEMA. For those who prefer to play in warm weather, Kia also announced the Niro Triathlon, which has a similar feel of the Ski Gondola but adjusted for activities like biking, swimming, or running.

While both vehicles are exciting for outdoor adventurers, they are still just concepts at this point in time and we hope to see them come to fruition in the future.
