Looks Like We’re (Kinda) Getting a Ford GT in Detroit
We’re only about three weeks away from the beginning of the 2015 North American International Auto Show, which means we’ve got plenty of time for Ford to just go ahead and say yeah, we’re bringing back the GT, and you’re gonna love it.
Until then, we’ve got a confirmation by way of Autoweek, who says that sources close to the development process are going on the record as saying that the Ford supercar will be returning in some form or fashion at Detroit.
The sources did not say, however, that the vehicle shown on January 12th would bear any aesthetic similarities to the much-beloved vehicle of old, let alone carry the name GT. One source even went so far as to say that he doubts that it will be called the GT in its production form and has it on good authority that it will look entirely different from the GT. So, it may wind up being a Ford GT that isn’t a Ford GT at all.
In addition to a limited production run, the maybe-GT will be the focus of Ford’s plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its first 24 Hours of Le Mans win in 1966. Ford Performance is said to be working closely with Chip Ganassi Racing to put forth a two-car team for the 2016 Tudor United SportsCar Championship season, but it is noted that any official announcement will likely not take place until several weeks after Detroit.
The Ford GT is speculated to join a new version of the F-150 Raptor and the Shelby GT350R at Ford’s January 12th press conference, scheduled to take place at 9:10 am EST. Watch this space for the latest information.
