Last Three Episodes of Top Gear Season 22 Postponed Due to Clarkson’s Suspension

It’s no secret that Jeremy Clarkson, host of the world’s most popular automotive television show, Top Gear, can be kind of a toolbag. In the past, he has gotten in trouble for using the n-word while reciting “Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe”; for calling those who throw themselves under trains “selfish”; and for driving a vehicle in Argentina which sported a license plate referring to the Falklands conflict. But now, Clarkson has been suspended from Top Gear for allegedly punching one of the show’s producers, which means the last three episodes of season 22 are now in limbo.
The BBC commented, “Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation. No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time.” Clarkson is a controversial figure, and the show often receives complaints from viewers offended by something he or one of his co-hosts has said. The BBC had previously mentioned that after the racism incident (in which Clarkson uttered the n-word) they put him on a final warning—and it seems they were serious.
While controversy is part of what makes Top Gear so appealing to such a wide audience, this alleged incident is certainly going a bit far. If Clarkson did, indeed, punch a producer, then he should be disciplined, as anyone would be for hitting a colleague. We only hope that Top Gear will return to our screens soon so we can catch the latest star in a reasonably priced car.
