Leslie Jones Makes You Want to Buy Insurance in New Allstate Commercial
Leslie Jones first captured my heart when she joined the cast of Saturday Night Live. My love for her became even more concrete after I got to see her antics in the reboot of Ghostbusters. The fact that she’s been under fire recently, and even had to leave Twitter because she was targeted by racist and misogynistic comments, is just ridiculous. She’s the right type of comedian that keeps things interesting with impeccable comedic timing and jokes that toe the line of controversial.
All in all, I think she’s a genius.
So it should come as no surprise that I think Allstate Insurance is a genius for using Leslie Jones in its newest commercial. Say good bye to those darkly funny “Mayhem” spots from this insurance company and hello to awesome.

There’s no denying that Jones has one hell of a presence. Her personality alone helps her stand out from a crowd, just as much as her six-foot stature does, too. So it’s really not surprising that, while talking about the great features Allstate’s Drivewise app has, Jones heads out on the open road and makes an overture to a fellow driver, coming right out and asking him if he wants her number.
And that’s just within the first ten seconds of the commercial.
As the commercial continues, Jones ends up stranded on the side of the road, waiting for a tow truck. As the driver approaches her, she calls him by name. How does he know his name? Well, it’s just one of the many features of the Drivewise app—which helps you know who’s coming and when they’re going to get there when you’re stuck on the side of the road.
Really, in just 30 seconds, Jones packs a punch of light-hearted comedy, making a commercial about car insurance interesting for once. There’s no more wincing while watching Allstate commercials—just chuckling.
