The Lexus Eco Challenge results are in!

Sometimes, it’s easy being green—especially when there’s $30,000 on the line. In order to encourage eco-awareness and to help communities throughout the country, Toyota started the Lexus Eco Challenge, an educational program and contest that encourages children of all ages to not only learn about the environment, but also take steps towards improving it.

The program asked high school and middle school students across the country to create an action plan to help address an environmental issue, and then implement it, reporting the results.

Finally, the Lexus Eco Challenge results are in, with two Grand Prize winners of $30,000.

Pineland Eco Scienteers from Pinelands High School in Little Egg Harbor , New Jersey, helped reduce deforestation in third world countries. Team E.T. from Byron Center West Middle School, in Byron Center, Michigan, who helped send water filters to Haiti, Philippines, and Kenya, while also helping build a well in Haiti. There were also eight additional First Place winning teams, who will receive $15,000 each.
