Lexus is all about embracing an active luxury lifestyle, and the automaker has recently announced it is hosting a Gran Fondo over Memorial Day Weekend. If you’re confused as to what exactly a gran fondo is, you’re not alone. According to GranFondoGuide.com, it is a long distance bicycle race, mostly popular in Europe, that is treated similarly to a running marathon. Traditionally a gran fondo involves different lengths of races that cyclists can choose from based on ability, and they often involve chip timing and several categories of competition.

The popularity of gran fondos has spread to America, and Lexus has created a whole event to surround a weekend of racing in Massachusetts. At the heart of the Lexus Gran Fondo are 100-mile, 50-mile, and 28-mile rides that will take cyclists through Boston and Cape Cod on May 28th. The 100-mile gran fondo will be accompanied by Lexus Cycling Master Christian Vande Velde and the cycling master George Hincapie. The two shorter races will focus on the most picturesque regions of Cape Cod for the ultimate cruising experience.

All three races will end at the Chatham Bars Inn for a celebratory barbeque cookout by Lexus Culinary Master Dean Fearing, and then later in the evening participants are welcomed back for a special dinner featuring wine pairings chosen by Lexus Master Sommelier Carlton McCoy. To sweeten the event even more, event guests who are not biking will be driven from the starting Boston hotel to the Cape Cod location, and then cyclists and guests will all be returned to Boston on Monday.

“Lexus is committed to providing extraordinary experiences for our customers, and our first-ever Lexus Gran Fondo is no exception.” said Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of marketing. “We curated a luxurious food, wine, travel and cycling weekend that showcases our high-caliber hotel partners, talented Culinary Masters and accomplished pro cyclists to provide a remarkable Memorial Day weekend for our guests whether they are cycling aficionados or simply food and wine connoisseurs.”
