Launch of the Honda Rebel + Aviator Nation Motorcycle at SXSW

Honda has been a fest-goer’s best friend as of late, providing virtual reality rides to movie buffs at the Sundance Film Festival and actual rides (plus bandanas!) to music lovers at Austin City Limits. And now, the Japanese automaker is once again providing a special treat to fest-goers, this time with the premiere of the Honda Rebel + Aviator Nation motorcycle at SXSW 2017.

The limited edition cruiser will be launched at the Waterloo Records Day Parties happening in Austin, Texas from March 15th through the 18th. The bike is a natural fit for South by Southwest’s hip sensibilities, fusing Honda’s modern 300 and 500 Rebel motorcycles with the retro-chic 1970s vibe of California lifestyle brand Aviator Nation.

The resulting seventies-tastic two-wheeler, complete with a hand-stitched burgundy leather seat and a vintage gold sparkle gas tank, will make its first outdoor appearance at Aviator Nation’s on-site pop up shop at SXSW. The custom bikes will be made available for purchase at Aviator Nation flagship stores in June (regular 2017 Honda Rebel 300 and 500 models go on sale nationwide in late April).

“We’re really excited about this collaboration with Aviator Nation,” said Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “The potential for these bikes is endless and with the Aviator Nation customized bikes, we’re just starting to explore what great things are possible in the custom bike world. With each different owner, we’re hoping to see totally different expressions of style and attitude. This up and coming generation of riders will probably be unlike anything we’ve known and we’re hoping they think the same of these great motorcycles.”

Aviator Nation founder Paige Mycoskie designed the bikes, which come complete with Aviator Nation’s signature four stripes painted on the gold gas tank, along with custom brown leather grips, round rear view mirrors, a minimalist tail light and caged head lamp, and an Aviator Nation logo embroidered in the seat.

“I was inspired by vintage motorcycles from the 70s,” Paige explained. “When I was given the opportunity to customize a 2017 Honda Rebel, I knew that I wanted to create a classic, clean look reminiscent of those heritage Honda bikes.”

Those checking out the motorcycle at Waterloo Records will also be able to purchase exclusive Aviator Nation + Honda Powersports custom designed gear, such as tanks, tees, and hats. So if you can’t afford a retro bike, perhaps a cool ball cap with four stripes on it will be more within your price range.
