Lincoln kicked off sales in China in late 2014, and its first full year of sales in the country was considered a success when its full vehicle lineup delivered sales totaling 11,630 vehicles. By that metric, Lincoln’s second full year in China was roughly three times better, as sales nearly tripled from 2015 on the way to confirming the brand as the country’s fastest-growing luxury label.

More on the 2017 Lincoln Continental: Why it’s been so worth the wait

Lincoln delivered sales totaling 32,558 vehicles in China in 2016, a number bolstered both by the continued success of the Lincoln MKX, MKC, and Navigator and the introduction of the new Lincoln MKZ and 2017 Lincoln Continental. Lincoln also finished the year with a significantly increased dealership presence—there were 65 Lincoln dealerships in China at the conclusion of 2016, and expansion is not likely to slow down headed into 2017.

“The momentum is both gratifying and encouraging,” said Kumar Galhotra, president, The Lincoln Motor Company. “We’re pleased clients are recognizing the superior experiences and vehicles Lincoln offers.”

This growth complements Lincoln’s 10% sales increase in the United States, where the brand sold more vehicles in 2016 than it had in nine years. Perhaps most impressively, this was accomplished in a year during which luxury market sales only gained 1%.

Lincoln notes that its sales were helped by strong sales in key markets like New York, Florida, and New Jersey, where sales in 2016 increased 13%, 10%, and 9%, respectively.
