Liverpool FC Facing Mainz 05 in OPEL ARENA-Opening Friendly on August 7

Last month, Opel and FSV Mainz 05 revealed that the football stadium will henceforth be known as OPEL ARENA. It was today revealed that the official opening match for the stadium will take place on Sunday, August 7th at 3:45 pm.

The occasion: a pre-season friendly against Liverpool FC, a club managed by none other than Opel brand ambassador Jürgen Klopp. The match will precede the start of Premier League play, which kicks off for Liverpool FC on August 13th at Arsenal.

“There could not be a more exciting and emotional way to open the OPEL ARENA,” said Jürgen Keller, Managing Director of Opel in Germany. “Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool FC, Mainz 05—that is going to be a ‘football festival’ for the spectators and the fans. I am also delighted that, thanks to our partnership with Mainz 05, we can offer Opel employees a large contingency of tickets at reduced prices.”

Tickets for the friendly are available beginning June 23rd through the Mainz 05 ticket shop and normal ticketing agencies.

The match will be of particular interest for those who have followed the career of Klopp. The 49-year-old played a total of 337 games for Mainz 05 from 1990-2001 before taking over as the club’s coach from 2001-2008. Klopp left the team at the end of the 2007-08 campaign to lead Borussia Dortmund, winning two Bundesliga titles, one German Cup, and the 2013 UEFA Champions League final in seven years.

To promote the brand, Opel is expected to prominently display new models including the Astra, ADAM, and Mokka X around the arena during the opening match and throughout the Bundesliga season.
