The concept of wire-to-wire victory is hard to achieve in any sport, and it’s arguably as difficult a feat to pull off in motorsports as any. 2015 Daytona 500 winner Joey Logano pulled off this impressive achievement on Saturday at the NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, leading all 300 laps in his second win of the season.

“I’ve never led every single lap in a race before.  What a fast Discount Tire Ford.  Gosh, that’s amazing.  You’re waiting for something to go wrong.  Such a fast car and with late cautions and all that stuff and you’re like, ‘Alright, where am I gonna blow this thing?’ Because those are the ones that you’re just nervous throughout the whole race, but what a fast car,” said Logano, adding, “we’ll try to do this again tomorrow.”

Unfortunately for Joey and Team Penske, their tomorrow was the polar opposite of Saturday’s victory. During Sunday’s Food City 500, Logano was wrecked by teammate Brad Keselowski just 19 laps into a race that was ultimately quite tough on the field.

“Brad just got loose underneath that lapped car,” Logano said. “You start checking up and it looked like he was gonna have it saved and he checked up more than I expected and the next thing you know I’m in the back of him and we’re both headed towards the fence. The last thing you want to see when you’ve got a rain delay here. It’s just such a bummer for both Penske cars.”

Logano would finish the rain-delayed race in 40th place. Still, for as difficult as Sunday proved, his Saturday victory was enough to salvage the weekend from being a total wash. Logano remains second in the points standings, 30 back of leader Kevin Harvick.
