A lot has been said regarding the completely redesigned exterior of the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang, and rightfully so, but what makes a Mustang a Mustang is not aggressively sculpted side panels or a sleek new front grille (can you tell we like it?); it’s what is under the hood. Let’s take a look at the 2015 Ford Mustang engine options.
What would a Mustang be without a high-performing V8? Ford outfitted the 2015 Mustang with an available 5.0-liter V8 that pumps out an immense 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. or torque. To achieve those performance figures, Ford engineered the new V8 with larger intake and exhaust valves, enhanced camshafts, and stiffer valve springs among other upgrades.
Despite the almost gaudy output of the V8, a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine is garnering most of the attention as far as powertrains go in the 2015 Mustang. Now, if you’re thinking a 2.3-liter engine isn’t large enough for the next generation of the iconic pony car, give us a chance to explain.

This revolutionary engine employs turbocharging and direct-injection to generated a projected 305-plus horsepower and 300-plus lb.-ft. of torque, and although EPA estimates have yet to be released, Ford predicts that the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine will return best-in-class fuel economy.
“This EcoBoost engine delivers the healthy output that Mustang drivers expect regardless of the speed,” said Scott Makowksi, EcoBoost powertrain engineering manager, in a press release. “This EcoBoost engine might be small in displacement, but it delivers where a Mustang driver expects it with a broad, flat torque curve and great driveability under any conditions.”
