It’s been all but certain that the whopper Ford GT supercar will inevitably result in a track-oriented version that would take a run at the 2016 25 Hour of Le Mans, but we hadn’t heard much in the way of news as to when we’d learn more about it. Until now.

According to Racer.com, “prevailing wisdom” indicates that a special announcement set by Ford for this coming Friday will officially reveal on-track plans for the Ford GT. That the wisdom is prevailing should be obvious enough: Ford has indeed set a press conference for Friday. And it’s happening at Le Mans.

The press conference, slated for 9 am EST, will result in a “significant performance news” announcement and will be attended by big-news stalwarts like Ford Executive Chairman, Bill Ford, President; CEO Mark Fields; and Group Vice President of Global Product Development Raj Nair. There will also be an unnamed special guest. Could it be Mr. Ganassi? Perhaps one of the pilots of this beautiful beast?

Racer has it that the announcement will reveal that Chip Ganassi Racing—a frequent co-conspirator with Ford—will run a two-car team in TUDOR next year while a second two-car team runs through the World Endurance Championship.

While it’s unlikely that all of the details will spill out on Friday, at the very least, we should get a good clear look at the Ford GT racer for the first time. Stay tuned, folks.
