Gun control has been a hot topic in the news as of late, sparked in part by the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 dead. Students from MSD High School have taken to activism in an effort to push stronger gun control into legislation. As part of this effort, the students are hosting a nationwide march, called March for Our Lives, on March 24 in Washington D.C. and in sister cities across the nation.

Many corporations are issuing public statements about gun control. Enterprise ended its partnership with the NRA, and retailers like Dick’s Sporting Goods and Walmart are changing their own policies on gun sales. Most recently, Lyft stepped forward in an effort to assist with the March for Our Lives event.

In a letter to MSD High School students, signed by Lyft’s co-founders John Zimmer and Logan Green, Lyft offered its services to all attendees, nationwide, of the March for Our Lives. “We’d be honored to support your work with free Lyft rides to March for Our Lives rallies across the country on March 24,” the letter read, reminding the students that passengers under 18 must be with an adult to receive a ride from Lyft.

“We believe there is something seriously wrong when the threat of gun violence is so frequent and real throughout our country,” said Lyft. “And like many, we are inspired by your leadership.”
