top 10 worst pothole cities in America

Imagine that, in front of your house, lies that assassin of car suspension, a monstrous pothole. You ask the city government to fill it in, but a year later, the pothole still stands, looking up at you with one monstrous, sunken eye.

So, what are you to do? Well, if you are Eddie Prosser of Jackson, Mississippi, you decide that “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em,” and throw the new member of the neighborhood a birthday party.

The pothole received a delightful display, complete with a giant birthday card reading “Happy birthday, Pothole! I’ve been here for over a year!” plus a nice birthday balloon (and not one of those cheap round ones—one of the inelastic plastic ones).

All joking aside, though, Prosser told WJTV that, despite the joking nature of the birthday card, he really was angry at the city’s lack of action. “I do find our problems in the city of Jackson serious, but at the same time, it’s just one small pothole,” he said. “When they fix the potholes just a block away, it wouldn’t have taken another 10 minutes.”

Well, apparently after a year of nothing, all it took for Jackson to fill in the pothole was a little public shaming, as after a few local news outlets picked up the tale of the year-old pothole, Jackson city filled in the pothole. According to local reports, the next step is to pave the area over. Hopefully, this will happen before Prosser has occasion to make a sign reading “Happy Second Birthday!”
