Many were stunned when Motor Trend doled out its annual Truck of the Year award to the 2015 Chevy Colorado. Some pickup drivers (mostly Ford loyalists) were under the impression that the award was destined for the 2015 Ford F-150. Given how fiercely devoted some truck fans are, you can imagine their anger when a new mid-size Chevy, and not the full-size Ford, took home the top honors from Motor Trend.

But there was at least one person who was immensely proud of the Colorado’s Truck of the Year award, and who felt that it was totally and justly deserved: GM CEO, Mary Barra (though she might be a tad biased, come to think of it). Barra recently addressed the Colorado’s Truck of the Year award in an interview.

“Chevrolet and the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado winning the Motor Trend Truck of the Year is just such an accomplishment,” said Barra. “When the team got together, they really looked to make sure they understood the customer for the mid-size truck…I think [that is] what I am most proud of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado.”

The Truck of the Year award is only given to new or significantly redesigned trucks each year. The Ford F-150 was seemingly the Colorado’s only true contender.

Congrats to Chevy on the recent win! And to the boys and girls at Ford, better luck next time.
