Mary Barra GM Recalls Nearly 50,000 Vehicles

Author and former Detroit Free Press columnist Doron Levin will soon be hosting an hour-long SiriusXM radio show called “In the Driver’s Seat,” which he describes as “an automotive variety show.” The debut episode will air at noon on Saturday, and Levin’s first guest will be none other than GM CEO Mary Barra.

“She’s a person with an excellent mind and excellent presentation skills, which you would expect,” Levin told the Free Press, “but also a quiet toughness that I wasn’t expecting.”

During the interview, Barra reportedly discussed the recent economic turmoil in China, confirming that GM would be there “for the long term.” Barra said she anticipates “substantial growth” in that market for the next 10 to 15 years.

When asked to name the favorite vehicle that she’s driven recently, Barra (unsurprisingly) revealed that she’s a Vette fan.

“The coolest car is the convertible Corvette Z06 that my husband and I took to the Woodward Dream Cruise,” Barra told Levin. “We call it the beast. It’s black on black on black and it’s a car that’s just phenomenal to drive and it’s exciting to see people’s reaction.”

Next week, for his second episode, Levin will host CNBC’s Mad Money host Jim Cramer to talk about auto companies and their stocks.
