General Motors CEO Mary Barra was honored with the “Automotive Key Player” award in Madrid this week for her continued contribution to development in the automotive industry. The award, handed out by El Mundo, is a testament to Barra’s commitment to expanding GM’s influence at a global level in such a way that it improves both her company’s standing and the quality of goods and services provided to customers.

The ninth Automotive Key Player award was handed out on Wednesday at a gala attended by Spanish Minister of Industry, Energy, and Tourism José Manuel Soria and Unidad Editorial Vice President Giampaolo Zambeletti. Barra was presented with the award by Unidad Editorial Chairman and CEO Antonio Fernández Galiano, El Mundo Director David Jiménez, and Sergio Piccione.

Manuel Soria lauded Barra and General Motors for its commitment to expansion in Europe and Spain, saying, “The support of the company has an important knock-on effect for the Spanish industry.”

In her acceptance speech, Barra expressed gratitude to General Motors’ employees and customers, reiterated the company’s commitment to expanding the Opel and Vauxhall lineups throughout the next five years, and discussed the continued advancement of collision mitigation, in-vehicle connectivity, and autonomous driving technologies.
