May Sales for Subaru Mark 30th Month of Growth
We’re not entirely certain if you’ve noticed this or not, but Subaru is just absolutely crushing it. Like, almost three straight years worth of monthly growth crushing it. Mays sales for Subaru were up 11 percent year-over-year thanks to stellar performances from stalwarts like the Outback and XV Crosstrek and best-ever months for the Forester and WRX/STI.
“We are having another great year” said H. William Cyphers, senior vice president of sales. “Every model line is in demand and our challenge is to keep supply levels high enough to keep the customers coming in our showrooms satisfied.”
By moving 44,170 units in May, Subaru recorded its third consecutive month of sales exceeding 40,000 units.
A large contributor to this benchmark was the Forester, which was up 40.5 percent in May and stands 50.53 percent ahead of its pace in 2013. Not only was May the best month ever for the Forester, but it also marked the tenth month in a row that Subaru has sold more than 10,000 examples.
While the Outback was a little more than 5 percent behind its May 2013 sales mark, it was still Subaru’s second-best volume seller an remains ahead of last year’s clip through the first five months.
The WRX/STI also enjoyed its best month ever with sales of 2,957 units, up 61.7 percent. Year-to-date, the WRX/STI has increased sales by 42 percent.
The XV Crosstrek small crossover also enjoyed a successful may with sales of 5,778 units, up 9.12 percent year-over-year. Thus far, the XV Crosstrek has improved upon its 2013 numbers by 38.6 percent.
At the rate Subaru is going, it will close out 2014 with more than three years of consecutive monthly sales growth and a sixth straight year setting a new annual sales record.
“With very positive press reaction to the all-new Legacy and Outback models we expect even stronger demand as we enter the summer months and we remain on track for another record year.” said Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc.
