The XC60 was Volvo’s best-seller once again in May

Aided by continued growth in China and a strong performance in its home country of Sweden, May Volvo sales grew 13.4 percent and marked the brand’s 11th consecutive month of growth. Through May, Volvo’s global sales are up 10.5 percent with a total of 185,881 units sold.

Volvo continues to solidify itself as a formidable force in China after posting a new single month sales record in May. Volvo shipped 7,104 vehicles in China, up 60.9 percent year-over-year; this brings the automaker’s five-month total in the world’s largest automotive market to 30,972 units, up 35.2 percent over 2013.

Volvo was also successful in its native Sweden, where Volvo Cars captured a 21.5 percent market share on the strength of selling 6,228 units. Volvo credits their continued growth—Volvo Cars sales were up 33.5 percent year-over-year in May—to advertising campaigns starring Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic and pop star Robyn.
