Mazda Motorsports announced that soon the Mazda MX-5 Cup car would receive several enhancements, which would be reflected in the car’s price. Starting on September 7th, the price for an MX-5 Global Cup race car will rise to $58,900, an 11.1% increase over the original price of $53,000.

The new price is a reflection of improvements made to the car since the first one was delivered in November 2015 and up to the 100th car, which will be delivered to the Monticello Motor Club this week. Specifically, Mazda has made five major improvements: a Motorsports-specific gearbox, Motorsports-specific engine brackets, differential bushing inserts, an available fuel pump-out kit, and ECU hardware and software updates.

Always Improving: Enhance the remainder of the warm weather with these outdoor activities

John Doonan, director of motorsports, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), said, “When we launched the new MX-5 Cup racecar, our goal was to provide the best value in sports car racing. We believe we have done that. With more than 100 orders to date, many others obviously agree. An old adage is that racing improves the breed, and in just the first few months of racing, we have made a few significant upgrades to ensure that the car remains a great value for many years to come.”

Buyers of the original 108 MX-5 Global Cup race cars will be allowed to order additional cars before September 16th at the old price. The car is only available ordered directly from Long Road Racing, Mazda Motorsports’ development and production partner, starting from the Mazda Motorsports website.

“The bottom line is that this car is even better than it was just a few months earlier,” Doonan said, “and we expect to see even more of them on tracks around the world in the years to come.”
