Back in 2007, Mazda announced a new development vision, which it called “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom.” This vision led Mazda to offer advances in driving pleasure, environmental performance, and safety features.

Now, though, Mazda has decided to kick its development vision further down the road, under a new name: “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030.”

This vision is focused on three principal points: the Earth, our Society at large, and the People that drive the brand’s vehicles.

As for Earth, Mazda plans to “create a sustainable future in which people and cars coexist with a bountiful, beautiful earth.” In more specific terms, this means things like reducing well-to-wheel carbon dioxide emissions, with a goal of reducing them to half of 2010 levels by 2030 and to 10% by 2050, by prioritizing efficiency improvements like the new SKYACTIV-X engine and new, electric Mazda vehicles in 2019.

As for Society, Mazda wishes to “Through cars and a society that provide safety and peace of mind, create a system that enriches people’s lives by offering unrestricted mobility to people everywhere.” Mainly, this means continuing development of advanced safety systems, with the eventual goal of eliminating traffic accidents. It also means standardizing the brand’s i-ACTIVSENSE safety features, and expanding testing into autonomous vehicles and connectivity technology.

As for People, Mazda wants to “Enhance customers’ mental well-being with the satisfaction that comes from protecting the earth and contributing to society with a car that offers true driving pleasure.” Clearly this builds on the above two points, and adds pursuing the brand’s philosophies of Jinba-ittai, or a close connection between driver and vehicle, and “breathing life into the car” with KODO exterior design.
