Following up a January where sales were better than they have been since 1994, Mazda North American Operations has now announced that, for February you can just scratch “January” off that headline, because it has once again posted sales unmatched since the mid-90s.

Specifically, February 2018 meant 25,731 vehicles sold, for an increase of 12.7% over last February. In year-to-date sales, the increase is even more impressive, as they are up 13.9% over this point last year, to a total of 50,693 vehicles. Certified Pre-Owned sales also flourished, with 3,666 models sold, an increase of 6% and the best February ever for CPO sales.

The sales charge was once again led by the automaker’s crossovers, particularly the CX-5, which posted its 11th record-breaking sales month and best-ever February with 13,216 vehicles sold – an increase of a ridiculous 68.7%. This was followed by a much smaller sales gain from the CX-9, which sold 2,286 models, a 6% increase over last February. The third member of the Mazda crossover club, though, didn’t quite make it into positive territory, though, with 1,259 CX-3 sales – only 20 fewer than last February and a decrease of 1.6%. For the crossovers, as always, the i-ACTIV® AWD system was equipped on the majority of models, with 60.7% using the drivetrain.

From there, though, unfortunately things continue to look dim, as the Mazda6, the brand’s full-size passenger sedan, only sold 2,246 models, a 37.6% drop from last year. The Mazda3, the brand’s compact passenger vehicle, then, posted a much smaller drop of 11%, down to 6,070 vehicles sold. Finally, at the bottom of the Mazda lineup in terms of size is the MX-5 Miata, struggling in the February cold with only 654 sales, a decrease of 41%.

When it comes to year-to-date sales, the results are similar, with the crossovers posting increases (the CX-3 did well enough in January to push it up to join its siblings), and all the passenger vehicles plus the Miata posting decreases.

Finally, Mazda Motor de Mexico had a similarly great month with 4,352 vehicle sales, up 14.9% from last February, which makes it the Mexican division’s best-ever February.
