If you bought a new Mazda between Nov 25-Jan 2, like the 2014 Mazda2, you helped Mazda raise $500K for the Annual Disaster Giving Program

As a result of the Mazda Drive for Good™ program, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) made a $500,000 donation to American Red Cross earlier this month, which makes it the first automaker involved in the Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP).

“Mazda is honored to not only partner with the American Red Cross, but to also be an official member of its Annual Disaster Giving Program,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. “Our Mazda Drive for Good program has enabled all of us at Mazda to focus on giving back to our local communities and our nation as a whole, so it was a natural fit for us to partner with a great organization like American Red Cross.”

 

Docents for the Annual Disaster Giving Program bankroll what is essentially a surplus that will be used in the event of a major disaster. More immediate access to funds allows the Red Cross to distribute aid much faster in the sudden event of a disaster.

The Mazda Drive for Good program ran from November 25, 2013 to January 2, 2014 and incentivized the purchase of a new Mazda by promising to donate $100 for every new vehicle sold to one of four national or 32 local charities, based on the buyer’s choice. In addition, Mazda pledged an hour of community service for each test drive given during that time period.

 

Only a day after announcing the half-a-million-dollar donation, Mazda held a Red Cross blood drive at its corporate headquarters in Irvine, California.
