Mazda Drive for Good Offers a Hand and $1 Million to St. Jude
Remember the charity drive that Mazda North America ran from November 21st through January 2nd? Over the years, Mazda has used that annual fundraiser to donate millions of dollars to worthy causes across the nation, from prestigious organizations to local efforts like Brae’s Brown Bags.
Mazda Drive for Good (sometimes stylized “Drive 4 Good”) has announced that $1 million of its 2014 proceeds will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® to help fight pediatric cancer.
Mazda Drive for Good Donates $1 Million to St. Jude
During the Mazda Drive for Good yearly event, every new vehicle purchased or leased from a Mazda dealership during the holiday season involves a $150 donation from the brand to one of four national or 44 local charities based on customer choice. The total donation going to St. Jude this year is $1,000,000.
Also, due to the amount of test drives of Mazda vehicles during the Drive for Good event, Mazda employees and dealers are pledging to work more than 66,000 charitable service hours throughout local communities. That’s over 10,000 more hours than were pledged in 2014!
“Mazda’s donation to St. Jude helps them achieve their mission of reducing the cancer rate among children and allows them to continue their treatment without ever giving a patient’s family a bill,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North America. “However, this donation would never have been possible without the donations being directed by our customers throughout the month of December during the Mazda Drive for Good event…It is really a direct result of our customers wanting to give to St. Jude.”
For over 50 years, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® has been treating childhood cancer and as well as other serious ailments. It’s known for its leading survival rates among patients (at 80%) and sharing breakthroughs with doctors around the world.
