Mazda MX-5 Scores Japan Automotive Hall of Fame’s Car of the Year Award
According to CTV News, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 has just gathered yet another fabulous award to its name, this time from the Japan Automotive Hall of Fame: at a ceremony at Mazda’s Tokyo offices, the Hall of Fame’s judges awarded the MX-5 the Car of the Year award, the organization’s top annual award, citing the roadster’s sophistication, efficiency, and handling.
Of course, the fact that the MX-5 has been raking in awards since before day one probably had nothing to do with it.
Either way, Mazda was thrilled. “Our Roadster represents everything we stand for in terms of our car-making philosophy, so we are delighted to have that recognized,” said Masamichi Kogai, President and CEO of Mazda.
The 2016 Miata was the beginning of the nameplate’s fourth generation, replacing it’s slightly older predecessor flat-hooded exterior with smooth, flowing KODO-Soul of Motion design, while retaining the performance and fun-to-drive qualities that made the MX-5 famous in the first place. The 2016 MX-5 also dropped a little horsepower from the previous model while shedding some weight, and is engineered specifically to be engaging for the driver.
Really, given all of the glowing reviews that the MX-5 receives, it seems that it was a shoo-in for this award.
