Mazda R.A.C.E. Program Inspires STEM Students

Mazda’s R.A.C.E. (Racing Accelerates Creative Education) program encourages middle and high school students nation-wide to consider studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), demonstrating real world applications used within the automotive industry.

According to a recent Mazda news release, more than 300 students participated in the Mazda R.A.C.E. program in Tampa Middleton High School.

“STEM initiatives provide opportunities for students to be creative, imaginative, and innovative,” said Larry Plank, Director for K-12 STEM Education from Hillsborough County Public Schools. “They learn to solve real-life problems and through the process, are driven and inspired to learn and do more.  The Mazda Motorsports R.A.C.E. program creates an exemplary experience from a STEM perspective, while helping the students understand the many career paths they have for a happy, productive future.”

Mazda’s goal is to engage students, showing them how STEM is central to the success of Mazda both on the racetrack and in the marketplace. The Mazda R.A.C.E. program encourages open-mindedness and curiosity, aiming to show how exciting problem-solving can be. Mazda hopes to reach at least 12 schools across North America as the Motorsports team travels to 2014 race events.
