2017 Mazda CX-5

Mazda has had an unfortunate sales trend lately of slightly decreasing overall sales, despite quickly rising SUV sales. However, the Zoom Zoom brand has broken its pattern for September, with a total of 25,738 vehicle sales, a 3.4% increase over September 2016.

The Mazda CX-5 was once again star of the show, posting its best-ever sales month since it first went on sale in 2012. With total numbers of 12,440 sales, that makes for a 32.6% sales increase over last September (though at that point, the redesigned CX-5 was about to be revealed). The three-row CX-9 saw similar sales success, with total sales of 1,850 vehicles—a 0.9% rise over last year.

Unfortunately, the only other vehicle in the lineup to see rising sales was the MX-5 Miata, which sold 846 units for an increase of 12.5% over last September.

The brand’s smallest crossover, the CX-3, saw sales drop 4% to 1,453 units, while the Mazda3 and Mazda6 saw drops of 16.8% and 25.1%, respectively, to totals of 6,112 for the Mazda3 and 3,036 for the Mazda6.

On a different note, Mazda’s Certified Pre-Owned sales did fantastic for September, with a total of 3,580 vehicles, a year-over-year increase of 29%.

Unfortunately, Mazda Motor de Mexico did not see the same success as in the US, with total sales of 3,888 vehicles, a decrease of 17.9% over last September.
