Mazda Sponsors the Hunger Games (the Films, Not Real Ones)
After the underwhelming results of Mazda’s recent sponsorship of Fashion Rocks, the Japanese automaker has decided to reevaluate the events it chooses to finance. After all, who wants to be associated with Justin Bieber’s underwear?
Now, Mazda has turned its sights on something guaranteed to make a worldwide stir. The newest spectacle that the company will be promoting will feature people fighting for their survival, something audiences will gladly pay to witness.
News has broken that Mazda will be sponsoring the Hunger Games.
And, when we say Mazda sponsors The Hunger Games, we mean the film franchise–not the real thing!
Mazda Sponsors the Hunger Games’ Next Cinematic Entry
In case you aren’t familiar with the dystopian franchise based on Suzanne Collins’ juvenile lit series, or avoid any films being released with young adults as the stars, suffice it to say that The Hunger Games is big. Massive, really. The second entry in the film series, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, was the tenth highest-grossing film in US box office history and garnered over $800,000 worldwide.
With the constant buzz surrounding the next film entry, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One, it’s no wonder that Mazda saw the numbers, heard the excitement, and decided to cash in on the jackpot. Granted, it’s not the only company looking to cash in on a worldwide phenomenon. Whole Foods Market’s Whole Planet Foundation will be concentrating on charity work, donating $1 for every Courage of One juice sold. Likewise, Doritos will be releasing an app called “Our Leader the Mockingjay,” which will feature codes to unlock exclusive media content.
But Mazda sponsors The Hunger Games in its own way. As the official automobile sponsor of the US premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One, Mazda intends to keep itself saturated in the online advertising for the new film in the coming months. When fans scan a Mazda logo spotted on corresponding brochures, ads, or web sites, they will be gain access to more exclusive content.
Also, follow Mazda on Tumblr to participate in a Hovercraft (not to be confused with a Hoveround) design contest, which will result in more charitable donations.
We’re not sure if Mazda will actually make a product-placement appearance in the final film, but who knows. Perhaps Katniss will start making entrances on a Miata aflame. Or Mazda may be the preferred brand of transportation in the Capitol.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One will be released on November 21, 2014. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer for it below.
