2016 Mazda CX-3

This year, the New York Daily News has kicked off its own car awards program, and rightly picked the 2016 Mazda CX-3 as the best City SUV, thanks to “its combination of style and sophistication at an affordable price.”

According to the Daily News, the segment of “City SUVs” has been growing rapidly of late, and includes vehicles like the CX-3, Fiat 500X, Honda HR-V, Nissan Juke, and Jeep Renegade. Apparently the CX-3 received more commendations than any of those others, and then the judges were impressed first by Mazda’s trademark fun driving dynamics, then again by its low price.

“Equipped with a 146-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, the lightweight CX-3 feels quicker than it ought to,” they reported, “and demonstrates traditional Mazda driving dynamics, which means it is fun at the same time that it is frugal.”

Even at the top of the line with the CX-3 Grand Touring model, the Daily News praised the CX-3, saying that even though the Grand Touring trim comes for more than $30,000, it still comes as a bargain because, as they put it, “it is basically an entry-luxury crossover without the entry-luxury nameplate.”

Other Mazdas to snag DNA car commendations include the Mazda3, which won as the best Small Car for 2016; the MX-5, which won as the most Fun Car of 2016; the Mazda6, which was chosen as the best Family Car of 2016 (“bar none”); and the slightly larger CX-5, which won the title of best Small SUV of 2016. All in all, Mazda took more titles in the contest than any other car brand.
