Meet the Nissan Sylphy Zero Emission
The auto shows just keep on coming as the weather warms up, with Auto China 2018, one of the latest, starting in Beijing. This show is particularly important thanks to the sheer size of the Chinese market, and Nissan did not throw away its shot to make a splash. At the show, the Japanese automaker rolled out the Nissan Sylphy Zero Emission, the first EV made by Nissan in China for Chinese drivers.
“The new Sylphy Zero Emission is the next step in our electrification strategy for China,” said José Muñoz, Nissan’s chief performance officer and chairman of the Management Committee for China, who attended the event. “The new Sylphy Zero Emission will be Nissan’s first mass-production electric vehicle for the China market and one of the 20 electrified models that we plan to introduce over the next five years.”
Nissan didn’t stray too far from its roots to build the Nissan Sylphy Zero Emission, as this sedan is built on the same platform as the bestselling Nissan LEAF. The batteries fit under the seats of the vehicle, ensuring that there is a spacious cabin with plenty of legroom and no battery packs clogging up the car’s trunk. Official Chinese standards say that the EV Sylphy will achieve an extended drive range of 338 kilometers.
Supposedly this electric car will arrive in China later in 2018 with its own set of financing and service options. Considering the emissions problems in China’s big cities, hopefully the availability of a trustworthy EV will help the push for cleaner air.
