Mercedes-Benz Fleetwide Emissions Reduced 4.3 Percent
Mercedes-Benz is one step closer going green this year after the announcement that, in total, Mercedes-Benz fleetwide emissions have been reduced by 4.3 percent. This reduction, which is due in part to a recent mandate made by the European Commission, means that the German carmaker only has another 29 percent to go before meeting the mandate’s standards.
Though the German carmaker has been struggling to meet the mandate, which reduces the average new-car emissions to 95 grams of CO2 per kilometer, it has still come a significant way from the gas-guzzlers it used to produce. Last year alone, Mercedes already reduced fleetwide emissions from 140 grams of CO2 per kilometer to 134.
The company is considered to be a top-performer in fuel efficiency, especially with the edition of the diesel-powered B180 CDI Blue Efficiency Edition engine. This engine is capable of yielding about 62 mpg, a great fuel economy number for a car in its class.
