2016 GM Fleet 2017

Even the road less traveled can be tracked.

A technology upgrade will give fleets 24/7 access to their assets. Michelin Americas Truck Tires, a division of Michelin North America, Inc., declared that MICHELIN® commercial truck tires and retreads will be outfitted with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.

RFID automatically recognizes and traces tags assigned to objects through the use of electromagnetic fields. According to Michelin, this tech will give fleets a way to “better manage their tire assets throughout the full life cycle.”

Ralph Dimenna, Chief Operating Officer, Michelin Americas Truck Tires division, said in a statement that, “Michelin is the first manufacturer to integrate RFID into its full commercial truck tire portfolio. Technology is transforming the trucking industry and Michelin is leading this effort to improve fleet performance and the bottom line. We continue to drive innovation for fleets by integrating technology and enhancements to our services that add significant value to our fleet customers’ business.”

Also getting attention is the MICHELIN Tire CareTM Tire Maintenance program. Started in 2015, the program was designed to “proactively assist fleets in identifying and addressing tire issues that lead to downtime, low mileage, high fuel costs and safety risks.”

Now, Michelin is rolling out technological advances to the program including updated hardware and software solutions like Red Tag Resolution, Self Fit, Road Ready, Actionable Fleet dashboard and pricing options.

Over 36,000 commercial vehicles and 260 fleets are serviced by Michelin.
