It may have taken Chevrolet eight generations of high performance beasts, but we’re at long last going to get a mid-engined Corvette, called the Zora ZR1 (which explains why GM trademarked the name “Zora” at the end of the spring this year). The mid-engined Corvette Zora ZR1 flagship will hit the scene as a 2017 model, atop the Corvette lineup.

While auto enthusiasts have long been clamoring for a mid-engined Corvette, it is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea. Thus, Chevy will manufacture said mid-engined Corvette Zora ZR1 in a very limited run, likely about 1,500 examples each year, and at an exorbitant price. (What, you didn’t expect to be able to barter some corn and potatoes for it, did you?)

At least at first, a V8 will power the Zora models, though that could change down the road.
