Miley Cyrus Carpool Karaoke

After the tragic shooting in Las Vegas, Miley Cyrus appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to sing an emotional version of her Hannah Montana-era hit, “The Climb.” The performance had an incredibly positive response but left fans wondering if they’d hear Miley singing any of her other old hits anytime soon.

Well, fans can stop wondering, because it looks like that dream has become a reality: Miley Cyrus is throwing it back on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke.

Miley’s appearance on the show is in conjunction with the release of her album, Younger Now. The album seems to be a blending of her Disney childhood self and the grown-up, adult Miley Cyrus.

We got a fun, playful dose of Miley’s old music during the episode, including “The Climb” and “Party in the USA.” Hearing 2017 versions of those two songs truly showed off Miley’s improvements in vocal control and tone over the last few years.

During the episode, she talks about the infamous VMA performance with Robin Thicke, and explains that it was a bit of a turning point in her career that led her to be an activist:

“If that many people were going to talk about something that I did, or something that I do, then I should make it a good thing. And I should make it something that can change people’s lives rather than be a controversial conversation that does nothing but become a fun Halloween costume.”

We also heard an amusing anecdote about Miley’s sub-par driving skills. Apparently, when leaving the set of The Voice, she backed into the sound trailer, completely wrecking it. But instead of sticking around, she bailed in a hit-and-run. But, since she was a regular judge on The Voice, she had no choice but to come back the next day. She went through evasive maneuvers to avoid her rental car being noticed, but when she told Adam Levine and Blake Shelton about the accident on set, she realized she was already wearing a microphone, and the sound guys heard every word. Oops.

Hilariously enough, Corden decided to have Miley rate on a scale from one to 10 how high she was during certain highlights in her career. Turns out, she was sober for most of them (even twerking at the VMAs), except for the “Wrecking Ball” music video—she ranked that one a 10/10.
