i-MiEVs to Ulan BatorUlan Bator, which is not only the capital of Mongolia but also the official capital city of fun, just got a little bit greener thanks to the donation of two Mitsubishi i-MiEVs and an electric vehicle charger.

The all-electric Mitsubishi vehicles were donated on September 15 at a ceremony that was attended by Mayor Bat-Uul Erdene, Japanese Ambassador to Mongolia Takenori Shimizu, and various other government personnel.

“I hope to raise awareness on environmental protection and to reduce importing fossil fuels through popularization of electric vehicles in the future,” said Erdene.

The move seeks to aid Mongolia in its joint Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Japan, which was signed in July. Part of the agreement involves the popularization of electric vehicles, which is of considerable importance in the efforts to lower carbon emissions.

Mitsubishi also recently donated two i-MiEVs to the government of Laos and 23 i-MiEVs to the Carabinieri of Italy in order to aid them in similar green transportation efforts.

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is sold in the United States at a starting MSRP of $22,995 and is capable of returning EPA-estimated 112 combined MPGe. A sport-tuned version of the i-MiEV was also the winner of this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race.
