Mitsubishi Mirage Could Become a Brand-New Subcompact Crossover, Source Says
Many automakers are rapidly transitioning their lineups to meet customer demands, replacing their slow-selling sedans with in-demand crossovers. As Mitsubishi has been refining its lineup over recent years, the automaker has been exploring its options to rejuvenate its popularity in the US market.
As sales for the Outlander and Outlander Sport continue to grow, and as the Eclipse Cross breathes new life into Mitsubishi’s monthly sales, the automaker’s definitely taken note of how popular crossovers has become. So, it comes as no surprise that Mitsubishi may be planning to replace its popular Mirage subcompact car with a subcompact crossover SUV.

Current Mirage may evolve into a crossover SUV by 2020
According to an article by Japanese publication Response, Mitsubishi is making room in its lineup for a brand-new subcompact crossover by replacing the Mirage. The change is anticipated to be a metamorphosis for the current Mirage subcompact car, as the model will be growing in size for its next generation, possibly retaining the same name (or a variation of it). You can expect a new powertrain with performance and capability improvements, so it can rival the Hyundai Kona, Nissan Juke, and the Ford EcoSport.
Rumors like this aren’t uncommon, as many people have been speculating how Mitsubishi will revamp its lineup. Mitsubishi has not officially confirmed this news, but it’s not a stretch to assume the Mirage’s transformation is being considered. This would be very similar to what Mitsubishi did to the Eclipse, which used to be a two-door coupe and has now become the hot-selling Eclipse Cross.
If this change will happen to the Mirage, you can expect it to happen within the next couple years.
